“Our son looks forward to math tutoring with Charry — she makes it fun! Because he has become confident in his abilities and won success in the classroom, he no longer dreads the upcoming math quiz/test.” Isaiah Adams

Mastering Math — Better Grades, More Confidence, Lifelong Skills
Do you want to bring your child’s grades up? Tutoring is a way to achieve that. I have 18+ years of experience with one-on-one math tutoring, and 15+ years of classroom experience teaching computer related subjects. I can help your student master math. There are several elements that when combined create success.
Learning begins with Clear Explanations that are broken down into Small Chunks, and Delivered at the Right Pace for that Student
Math CAN be mastered. It starts with having clear explanations that are broken down into small enough chunks that are delivered at the right pace. Sample problems need to start easy before they get hard. Understanding is the first step, and everyone is different. An explanation that works for one student may have to be modified to work for another student.
Miracles are born from Patience, Clarity, and Practice!
Practice is essential! But practice without feedback is of limited usefulness. A tutor who applauds when an answer is correct and provides correction and good explanations when an answer is wrong can create clarity and real learning. Extra problems can be given and each concept can be practiced until it is mastered. Patience, clarity, and practice can work miracles!
Tutoring encourages Diligence, Hard Work, and Accountability
Math does require diligence and hard work. Weekly meetings with a math tutor create an additional focus on a subject that students often prefer to ignore. The extra attention and accountability that comes with tutoring is often one of the key ingredients to academic success.
Students CAN Succeed — Grades Will Come UP!
I can help your child succeed in math. I love watching students go from “I can’t” to “I can”. Students and parents love watching the grades come up. This is possible!! Some students go from D’s to A’s.

“Our son, burdened with a learning disability (he flunked kindergarten!), excelled in math once he was guided by Charry. Better yet, he enjoyed his time with her and retained her enthusiasm for understanding math. Fast forward one decade and our son just graduated with an MS degree from the U of A. Thanks, Charry!”

Last Minute Homework Help for Panicked Students!
I am happy to answer questions for a couple of homework problems when a student is running into snags with that evening’s assignment. Of course I have to be available and not working with other students. The best way to reach me for this is to text me rather than calling. I check my texts more frequently than I check my voicemails. My number is 520-784-1530.
For this option, I only take payment via Zelle. My rates for last minute help are a $20 flat fee plus $1 per minute. So for example, 30 minutes of help would be $20 + $30 = $50.
Weekly Tutoring and Groups
Most of my students will set up one or two time slots for weekly tutoring. In the long run, this is often a better idea rather than last minute help. Plus you know that I am going to be available. Rates are listed below.
Group tutoring is also available if you have more than one student taking the same class. You save a little bit of money with group rates. See the rates below. You can reach me at 520-784-1530.
SAT Math Prep
One of my favorite things is to work with students on SAT Math Prep. This is because while many of the problems are fairly straight forward and test basic content, there are also a fair number of problems that are like little mini puzzles.
These problems require the student to pull together diverse concepts and put them together in ways that probably were not required in their homework assignments. It is GREAT for developing deeper skills in analytical, logical, and creative thinking! More details can be found at the SAT Math Prep tab.
Rates
Rates for scheduled sessions paid in advance — a $10 flat fee plus $1 per minute per session. You can reach me at (520) 784-1530.
- $70 — 1 hour ($10 + $60 = $70 for 1 hour)
- $80 — 1 ¼ hours * Discounted! ($5 + $75 = $80 — $64/ hour)*
- $100 — 1 ½ hours ($10 + $90 = $100 — $67/ hour)
- $130 — 2 hours ($10 + $120 = $130 — $65/ hour)
Rates are less if you pay in advance. If you want to pay by the session rather than in advance, there is an additional $5 charge per session.
The rate improves slightly as the session gets longer, and currently my 1 hour and 15 minute sessions are discounted — because 1 hour is just never really quite long enough.
Payment can be made via Zelle or by check or by cash in person (if you live in Tucson).
Rates for last minute help on that evening’s homework assignment
Rates for last minute help on a couple of homework problems are $20 plus $1 per minute. So for example, 15 minutes of help would be $20 + $15 = $35.
Payment must be made via Zelle. Clearly this only works if I am available. Text me rather than calling me — I check my texts more frequently. You can reach me at (520) 784-1530.
Group rates
Group rates are available if you have several students taking the same class that want to work together. Group rates are also available for SAT tutoring. Payment must be made in advance. Rates vary depending on the length of time and the number of students. A group can be as large as 6 students. A few examples follow, but contact me for more information.
- $50 per student — 2 students for 1 hour
- $70 per student — 2 students for 1 ½ hours
- $30 per student — 5 or 6 students for 1 hour
- $60 per student — 4 students for 2 hours (think group SAT prep or finals review)

Location – almost anywhere (because of Zoom)
As of the COVID pandemic, I switched to Zoom tutoring. As a result, I can work with students from almost any time zone providing we can get the scheduling to work. I’ve had west coast and east coast students, and I’ve even worked with students in Spain and South Africa.

“Before I met with Charry I didn’t have any confidence when it came to math. As we worked together she not only taught me new skills and taught in a way that was beneficial to the way I learned, but she built up my confidence and gave me reassurance that I could do anything with a little practice! Charry helped me boost my test scores almost immediately, and what I learned with her truly stuck.”

TWO things really Matter —
Learning the Math and Gaining Confidence
Both of these are key.
- The student needs to learn the math so that grades come up and they create a strong math foundation.
The student needs to gain confidence, and develop the belief that “Yes, I can do math.” Confidence and a “can-do” mindset help to create success not only in the current course, but also in subsequent math courses.
Plus — Developing Lifelong Skills
There are valuable long term skills that can be developed with tutoring.
- Students may become more careful and methodical in working their problems.
- Students’ mathematical intuition, and logic can improve.
- Students can learn to think more critically and approach problems from more than one angle.
All of these are long term benefits that can accrue with math tutoring, and become important lifelong skills.

“A student in my geometry class was failing. He’s smart, but lacked confidence and lost motivation. I sent him to Charry. The two of them worked exceedingly well together. My student was able to engage with the material and discovered the joy of problem-solving. My student learned geometry and increased his math and reasoning skills.”

Good luck on your Math Journey!
Math doesn’t vanish once you’re past high school and college math — it is pretty much impossible to totally escape math in day-to-day life.

(For example, I always try and make sure that somewhere along the way each of my students learns how to calculate a 15% tip without using a calculator.)
We all end up with some kind of a lifelong relationship with math. Better to have math as a super power than a thorn in your side.
I’d love to meet you on Zoom — I love working deeply with students to transform their relationship with math. And, regardless of whether we ever meet — I wish you the best of luck on your math journey!!
